100 % Certified Organic Color Grown Cotton Fair Trade Cotton Yarn & Vegan - made in Peru Weight: 50g; Length: 81m/88yds Needle: #7 (5 sts = 1"); #8 (4.5 sts = 1"); and #9 (4 sts = 1"). Hook: I - K This yarn is so beautiful and pure, with no dyes and it’s certified organic. This is a worsted weight yarn great for afghans, sweaters, scarves and dish and wash cloths. Note, color grown cotton yarns get deeper (some more than others) in color with hot water and machine drying. Most conventional dyes fade over time. If you want to keep the color as is I would suggest a cool water wash with no machine drying. There is usually a one time shrinkage of a knit project by about 10~15% in the length, so keep this in mind when working on a project unless a pattern already specifies it. History of Peruvian Color Grown Cotton The earliest records of spinning date back to nearly eight millennia, to Peru, where Pakucho meant brown cotton in ancient Inca. Today, native~spun Pakucho cotton is grown in natural, cream, beige, brown, avocado and mauve shades. No pesticides, herbicides or other agri~chemicals are used to grow or color these yarns. All harvesting and color sorting is done by hand, just as it has been since the domestication of cotton in Peru over 4,500 years ago.
