Allow me to introduce myself…
by admin - June 19th, 2011.Filed under: Uncategorized.
Welcome to the Green Sheep Shop Blog! I want to start off with a HUGE thank you to everyone for the friendship, love, support, and help shown to me and my shop. I would not be here a year later without all of you – big hugs!
Being my fist blog post, I feel like I need to tell my story from A – Z – my history, why I started Green Sheep Shop, what I have planned for the future, lot’s of info about yarn, etc. – but not to worry, I won’t. I’ll spread it out for you into nice bite size pieces.
I’ll start of with a bit of personal info. I was born in Chicago, Illinois but have spent the majority of my 41 years living in beautiful but a bit over-crowded Southern California. Monday – Wednesday I work as an assistant to three attorneys and at night and the rest of the week I’m a tending this shop. My mom is a fabulous knitter – one of those knitters we are all jealous of – she’s never used a pattern, ever, she just whips things up, amazing! That is not me, I love the craft but I’m more of a by the book kind of girl, I’m trying to work on that. Truth be told, I like crocheting more than knitting – gasp! I’ve been married for 18 years, to the person I am meant to be with and who is my never ending support and cheering section. Katie is my only “child” a pet Senegal Parrot.
Enough about me – what are the plans for this blog. A lot of educational, fun, heartwarming information about yarn and the yarn industry; happenings at Green Sheep Shop; info about organic living; a bit of silliness and personal interests. I hope you’ll be back for more!
Let’s start things off right though with a giveaway. Everyone who comments on this blog post will be entered into the giveaway – a $50 gift certificate to Green Sheep Shop! Please enter only one time, multiple entries will not be valid. The drawing will take place on July 8, 2011. We plan on making this a regular feature.
That’s it for now…
All the best!
Annette

I am so glad to see that you are writing a blog because I think your online catalog has some of the best and most honest information about sustainable yarns I’ve seen. I currently work primarily with upcycled materials because I am cautious of some of the new fibers and I question the ethical practices of many of the foreign producers of textiles. I commend the work you do to bring consumers the ‘greenest’ of the yarns on the market. Just yesterday, I posted the link for your sari ribbon yarn on my personal Facebook page as a suggestion for DIYing my rag knit designs I make from salvaged cotton fabric. I believe there is enough for everyone in the sustainable new world. I am looking forward to learning more about you and your business through this blog.

This is fun! I already want to hear the rest of the story. I feel similar to you in that I love to knit, but only when it’s a small project, otherwise I’ll crochet. I guess we can call ourselves lucky because we can do both!

I also am pleased you’ve added a blog. I’ve been wondering what has motivated you to focus on green products in a field with a lot of un-green practices. Good for you!

I am so happy you now have a blog! My family has been organic for several years and I personally appreciate your yarn!

I second many of the above comments – it’s so nice to have a place where the products have all been “vetted,” as it were, so you can be confident your purchase is not only NOT doing harm, but actually doing GOOD. I’m looking forward to hearing more of your expertise about sustainable yarn, and about organic living!

Congratulations on your business and your blog!
Now that my children are almost out of the nest I am pursuing life part 2 with yarn in tow. I did some knitting as a child putting the muscle memory in place. This year I’ve started learning to crochet.

Hi! I enjoyed reading your first post, and I’m interested in reading more about eco friendly yarn. I live in a small town in Texas, so there are no yarn shops around except large big box stores in nearby cities. I depend on the internet to find interesting and new yarns. Glad to have found your blog!

It was such a pleasure to find your site and blog – I am looking forward to getting to know more about you and use your lovely yarns.
p.s. I am also a bi-crafter and think each has it’s place and use in construction of different looks…

Continuing best wishes to you with your yarn venture.
The website is a charity knitting project a friend and I have started. It uses left over yarns to knit miniature caps and sweaters which are made into garlands for holiday trees. All sales go to the American Cancer Society, to benefit all cancers in all ways.
We all have scrids and dabs of yarn- here’s a great way to use them up so you can then, with a clear conscious, indulge in acquiring more.
Or send your scraps to us for a local knitter to use.
Patterns on web site. Please feel free to use for any purpose, not only our charity project.
Thanks.

Annette,
Welcome, I just adore your on-line shop. And the name that you chose let’s everyone know immediately that you are eco-friendly! Congrats on your first year and also for starting this blog. I look forward to hearing all the great news about the Green Sheep and the antics of your “child” – “Katie”. There is another shop that just opened up here in St. Louis called Ewe Knit Yarns, and she has a”child” called Cosmo. Birds are so much fun, and being a former owner I wil be looking forward to her “outlook” on happenings at the shop!
My very best to you and continued success.
Fondly in Fiber,
